While right now is prime preparation time for Friday night's festivities, there is news that just cannot wait until post-Saturday-brunch.
District L favorite, Lois Eastlund, just launched her exclusive line for Glam 504. The brand new boutique opened March 2, 2011 on New Orleans' famed Magazine Street.

Glam 504 owner, Jess Galetz, elaborates, “I found these great independent designers in New York who I love and wear […] I noticed that there is nothing here like this."
In order to bring some Lower East Side style further South and equally east, Galetz opened her store with an expertly blended attitude. "The vibe of the store is a 60s Warhol pop-vibe with a little Rock n’ Roll thrown in, while still mixing together special aspects of New Orleans. Many items will be one-of-a-kind, custom-made pieces that will represent everything I love about New York while maintaining the vibe of New Orleans."

Lois’s exclusive line will include her signature modish, Ludlow-esteemed designs, as well as limited-edition dresses adorned in fleur-de-lis and painted bead prints.

Just because you traded your dinner date for a front-row runway seat this Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still drop hints for holiday gifts. Leave the package with the doorman, baby.
Our fabulous photographer, Rachel, and I were in Brooklyn last weekend. (We do occasionally venture off the island for the independent coffee shops and vintage finds.) Amidst the sea of flannel and Missed Connections, we stumbled upon a hidden gem in Williamsburg, Catbird. No, this is not a remake of the oddly charming late 90’s cartoon – only our newest jewelry obsession, perfect for a (G-rated) Valentine’s Day gift. The unique jewelry company makes a variety of goodies that are edgy, yet delicate, creating a look that’s more feminine then gothic.

As I tend to weigh every finger down with 2-4 rings like a traveling gypsy, I fell hard for the stackable letter rings. It’s the ideal way to pair your initials with your lover’s – coming in second place to romantic acts of arson.

Rachel also found something she couldn’t live without. This lovely little piece looks like a pocket watch but holds either lip-gloss or cream fragrances – more chic than a Chapstick and less cumbersome then packing your perfume. Perfection.

So get shopping to get smooching! And of course, this holiday is about love. (Love just always happens to be better with champagne.)

On Sunday, October 22, our little borough of Brooklyn was the proud host of National Steam Punk Day. And lucky for them, we were just curious enough to leave our lovely island and check it out.

Steam Punk is a growing trend that is essentially Victorian science fiction. Or, vintage Lara Croft.
The event boasted turn of the century garb paired with metallic goth pieces such as deconstructed watches, large bullet-turned-necklaces, and even… goggles? Yes, goggles. Needless to say, this is a trend that some people live and breathe by, but there are still ways to introduce smaller inspiration pieces into your daily wardrobe.

The focus of the event was a fashion show featuring Steam designers and a performance from Lolalola’s dance group. There were also readings, a vintage photo booth and a ton of yummy vendors to purchase your Steam Punk accessories.
One of our personal favorite vendors was Victoria von Boom Boom of RockLove. Beyond making cool things, even for actual rockers like Twisted Sister and Courtney Love, she was actually quite a fox too.

To check out her goodies (such as the rubber bracelets made from tire parts that you roll on like a condom) visit her website http://www.rocklovedesigns.com/.
While we can’t imagine Steam Punk taking over next month’s Vogue, we wouldn’t be shocked if a few key pieces snuck their way in. (We are hoping those lace masks will have a dual purpose.) So be sure to swing by the convention next year. Since it has doubled in size from last year, we have high hopes for the next one!

Remember Betsey's crazy 68th birthday party that she threw about a month ago? Relive the madness at her Soho store tonight during Fashion's Night Out. Those brave enough to venture through her tourist-filled neighborhood will enjoy makeovers, photography by Shannon Sinclair, and a free gift with purchase. In true Betsey style, live music and booze will also keep customers packed inside her brightly decorated store.
