Last night, Le Baron’s main level was converted into an intimate, temporary stage for another Encore! Live Session. The Monday night music series got off to a buzz-worthy start last month with HEARTSREVOLUTION and Theophilus London, but I was particularly anticipating LiveSession #3, The Virgins.
Evoking an attitude that New York perpetually longs to restore, The Virgins’ punky electric sound and casual recklessness transported us straight back to The Beatrice circa-2008. But this wasn’t a time for wistful reminiscing – their set list included a host of brand new songs with trippy, Pink Floyd-esque inclinations. The show ended with crowd-pleaser One Week of Danger, a fitting finale for a debaucherous Monday.

“Tulga is going to be the guy doing the door and it’s going to be more…poets. I want poets to come. If you are a poet, you can come,” Andre Saraiva, owner of Le Baron, declared almost a year ago. And after twelve months, a liquor license contretemps, and a stream of unrelenting downtown rumors, the famed magnate of international nightlife is set to open his doors… soon?

So that gives me a bit more time to figure out how to feign “poet” status – which, to me, means attaining the proper balance of insanity and eloquence. The intention seems pulled together, with a fragility that toes the edge, much like Lord Byron and the pet bear he kept at Cambridge or the charmingly bipolar Dylan Thomas.
Simultaneously transparent and obscure, it’s concluded that “Much Madness is Divinest Sense” – she who was the most elegant ticking time-bomb.

Whether it was his intention or not, nightlife photographer Kirill Bichutsky has created an underground trend barometer, a by-product of his libertine photography. Because the human mind can only absorb so much information and alcohol simultaneously, the style-savvy look to his site for trend recaps again and again.
Tonight is no different. Browsing through Kirill's recent November uploads, we noticed a look that's working throughout the industry - amped up legwear. Geometric fishnets, textured thigh-highs, and novel embroideries elicit the perfect air of boldness, especially after dark.

A week after their successful Soft Opening Concert and Party, the talented team behind Starboard Hudson announced that the party ain't over. Shortly after the New Year kicks in, the libertine crowd will again flood the ship for music and mayhem. [Don't fret - we'll be keeping you posted on the details.]
Congratulations, Starboard, for a splashy start!
