A Sin We All Can't Wait to Commit - Slick It Up.

Feb07

Monday mornings don't have to suck anymore. Well, at least not this one. What do Mondays normally feel like anyway?

Like the warmth of wealth when the heart has grown cold? Like an abstract emotion so rare it has no name? Like a sin we all can't wait to commit?

Normally, the answer would be D. None of the above, because it's 8 degrees outside, it's barely 10, and my inbox is chock full already.

But check out these new TV spots for maverick fetish gear label Slick It Up. With simple, sophisticated art direction and some seriously seductive taglines, nobody other than the award winning photographer Tim Palen of Lionsgate notoriety could lend black latex catsuits an upscale edge.

DecadesTwo - Going 2.0 with Two.1

Oct12

Cameron Silver's Decades, the expertly curated menagerie of vintage couture with both a hard location in LA and an ever-growing pop-up tour, is taking a big leap onto the new media gravy train.

Sister boutique DecadesTwo, which meshes Decades with a sort of Christies-meets-Gilt concept, has just relaunched as DecadesTwo.1, an online storefront which co-owner Christos Garkinos promises will be "focused on being both multi-platform and multi-media".

The stock, "pre-loved" pieces sold at as much as an 80% markdown, are sourced from Garkinos' personal circle of celebrity and industry contacts. This combined with an "under $300" section on the site means that, potentially, the only thing standing between you and one sudden degree of separation from Rachel Zoe is, well...$299.

Other features on the site include dossiers on the shop's high-profile consignors, closet features, and daily blog posts by Garkinos himself...besides much, much more. While technologically not the most revolutionary platform on the web, it's a thrilling (and surprisingly democratic?) new portal of access to some utterly sublime second skins.

So, Daphne, when you start to think your vault is getting a bit full...take note.

Word on the Street: Sara

Mar30

District L met freelance makeup artist and jewelry designer Sara Wilson during a fantastic day out in Long Beach, CA. She caught our eye with her effortless style, especially her understated grey jersey shift/shirtdress and sparkling personality to boot.

LA Fashion Week Kicks Off

Mar15

...and it's not being sponsored by IMG. District L perused the offerings nonetheless. Kimberly Ovitz, Trovata, Smoke and Mirrors, and the GENArt Show were some of the highlights, however the lineup this year seemed a little...sparse.

Most of the week is filled with various weepy-eyed humanitarian sponsored parties (if saving a starving child is a result of my downing copious flutes of Moet, then sign me up). Obviously we aren't expecting New York or Paris here, but there's a lot of smoke and no chicken if you catch our drift.

District L will be taking California by storm this week with Los Angeles and San Francisco on our radar- we'll keep you posted with some Word on the Street and hopefully some LA Fashion Week events.

Also- keep your eyes peeled for our interview with ADAM Designer Adam Lippes regarding the Fall 2009 Collection.

Stay tuned, District L is really taking off now.
