How We Spend Spring

Mar25

This past teaser week of warm weather is to blame for my sporadic updates and hasty posts. And now that the climate has returned to its seasonally appropriate state, I’m stuck yearning for another taste of silk georgette dresses and cropped spring jackets.

I spent yesterday afternoon stubbornly wandering Bloomingdale’s as temperatures began sinking to a lackluster 58 degrees. Against my best judgment, I braved the Soho crowds for a few hours of self-afflicted springtime envy.

I Survived Sunday Brunch.

Jan30

Curiously conquering the aftermaths of our eventful Saturday evenings, DL-and-friends met for Sunday brunch at Caliu.

“Perfect. Just small enough for us to get kicked out,” we mused aloud, as we descended upon the cozy West Village establishment in leather, fur, and last-night’s hair. We quickly began our bottomless mimosa session, sunglasses barely concealing our caustic glances at neighboring tables, and ordered enough Papas Bravas to soak up the afternoon.

Our second stop was the Tribeca Grand Hotel for serious coffee consumption, gold-flecked chocolate tarts, and… an afternoon nap. Yup, it’s all fun and games until someone passes out in The Lounge.

Thankfully, this Pre-Fall season was all about uncomplicated brunch-dressing – easy layering, oversized fur, and playfully grown-up accessories. And it’s okayyywe’re not real adults yet.

Fits Like a Glove

Jan04

I’ve always had a hard time with gloves. It’s difficult to keep them together, they make texting nearly impossible, and they never actually fit like the old idiom implies. I usually just shove my hands in my pockets and suck it up for the few seconds I’m hailing a cab.

But now Pre-Fall 2012 is redefining what it means to have handheld devices. That’s right, you filthy heathen, nobody wants to see those bare hands of yours.

DecadesTwo - Going 2.0 with Two.1

Oct12

Cameron Silver's Decades, the expertly curated menagerie of vintage couture with both a hard location in LA and an ever-growing pop-up tour, is taking a big leap onto the new media gravy train.

Sister boutique DecadesTwo, which meshes Decades with a sort of Christies-meets-Gilt concept, has just relaunched as DecadesTwo.1, an online storefront which co-owner Christos Garkinos promises will be "focused on being both multi-platform and multi-media".

The stock, "pre-loved" pieces sold at as much as an 80% markdown, are sourced from Garkinos' personal circle of celebrity and industry contacts. This combined with an "under $300" section on the site means that, potentially, the only thing standing between you and one sudden degree of separation from Rachel Zoe is, well...$299.

Other features on the site include dossiers on the shop's high-profile consignors, closet features, and daily blog posts by Garkinos himself...besides much, much more. While technologically not the most revolutionary platform on the web, it's a thrilling (and surprisingly democratic?) new portal of access to some utterly sublime second skins.

So, Daphne, when you start to think your vault is getting a bit full...take note.

Fashion Week Update

Feb17

10:35am: The once-empty lobby is now mobbed with guests for Carolina Herrera, including designer Tory Burch, stylist Rachel Zoe, and the multi-talented Robert Verdi.

11:15am: French Vogue's Carine Roitfeld was overheard asking a security guard where she could find the Promenade. Haven't you had enough experience with this, Madame?

11:45am: Two overdone high school students tried to get in through the front entrance by claiming their parents were inside the tents and they couldn't get in touch with them. When asked what show their parents were seeing, they replied, "The next one."

12:30: Paris and Nicky show up at the New York Public Library for the Jill Stuart show sending paparazzi in a frenzy.

2:55: The DKNY show finishes at its off-site location without any word of PETA protests.
