Bohemian Techno

Jan27

'Boho-techno,' a phrase one would probably use to describe Lemonade or Tanlines, has now become an emerging concept on Paris runways.

Damir Doma’s newest collection of wooden necklaces and chunky fur vests, titled "Bohemian Techno," still manages to reveal his futuristic leanings with some serious asymmetry. Like a cyborg with a fine arts degree and an affinity for unconventional travel, Doma’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection advances the trend of polished maverick.

Did I ever tell you about that time in Paris?

Dec20

This Pre-Fall 2012 season, Alice + Olivia just returned from Paris and they want to tell you all about it. They’re back in their knit berets, round black sunglasses, and 60s-printed sheaths, informing you how many crepes they ate and showing you every single picture they took. And even though they were only gone for a few weeks, they somehow managed to come back with an indistinguishable accent and a tendency to overuse phrases like, “C'est la vie!” and “N'est-ce pas?”

That’s right… their trip was “like, literally, life-changing,” and they won’t let you forget it. So, the least they can do is wrap up a fur-trim cape or floor-length accordion skirt and place it under our Christmas tree, right?

Don't You (Forget About Me)

Dec14

Nick: “This season, I think I’m going for the 80s-movie-bully look.”

Me: “Like, jock-bully or the loner-rebel-bully?”

Nick: “…like the jock from a broken home, you know? He’s in the right social circles, but he’s got some baggage.”

Me: “I totally get that.”

For those of you who didn’t get that, please turn to page 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Lim’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection is the sartorial equivalent of The Breakfast Club, simultaneously distinguishing and blending all of the exaggerated social conventions and strict stereotypes required for an 80’s teen dramedy. This theatrical uprising in social politics plays out in cashmere and leather.  Varsity jackets, comic nerd prints, and ultra-preppy silhouettes now all sit at the same lunch table – for this semester, at least.

[Cue music for inspirational closing montage.]
