Kirill, on top

Dec15

Kirill is still here.

Style.com consults Tommy Ton, Refinery29 checks in with Mr. Newton, but District L frequently turns to Kirill Bitchutsky to satisfy our street-style fix. Every night, the libertine party photographer attends whichever event has the highest PYT-per-capita – and without a preconceived plan or intention, he captures the fleeting, ever-evolving essence that is New York street fashion.

As I perused his recent archives, I noticed a rising trend that is better exemplified in a collection of images. No, I’m not going to sit here and reveal that “hats are in.” Come on, we’re better than that. What’s worth mentioning is the attitude and application of this conspicuous accessory. During the S/S 2010 shows, fedoras were still going strong on the runway -- but in just a year, they were rendered the trashy companion to Ed Hardy t-shirts and tribal tats.

The look is now becoming rounder and bolder. Porkpie hats, bowlers, and gaucho toppers have become the accessories of choice. Maybe it’s a sign? As another Depression-era adornment fades back into insignificance, the smarter and more assertive looks continue to reign.

Kirill capturing legwear.

Dec02

Whether it was his intention or not, nightlife photographer Kirill Bichutsky has created an underground trend barometer, a by-product of his libertine photography. Because the human mind can only absorb so much information and alcohol simultaneously, the style-savvy look to his site for trend recaps again and again.

Tonight is no different. Browsing through Kirill's recent November uploads, we noticed a look that's working throughout the industry - amped up legwear. Geometric fishnets, textured thigh-highs, and novel embroideries elicit the perfect air of boldness, especially after dark.

The Itinerary Accessory: What To Do

Oct05

Regardless of the season, a crowded social calendar is always the it-accessory. How else will you update your Facebook status?

Stop panicking, please! We've outlined enough Tweet-worthy events to keep you away from that Mark Zuckerberg movie:

Tomorrow, Wednesday October 6, Nikki Reed will be hosting a private launch for Swatch "New Gents Collection." At 8pm, the District L duo will be heading to Gansevoort Park Avenue for the collection's cocktail party. Not far from this timely event, BlackBook will be hosting The Obsessions Party at the Royalton. The trendiest guide to the city will be celebrating their October issue from 7-10pm.

Thursday --when this dreary weather is finally expected to break!-- Allison Parris will be hosting a trunk show from 5:30-8:30pm. Shop and sip champagne at her showroom on 208 W. 29th Street.

Have another fashionable happy hour on Friday. Join us at Custo Barcelona's Press Day Preview around 5:30pm for bubbly and bites. Can't make it over to Spring Street in time? Then, head over to the RE:FORMSCHOOL VIP Reception. Join the likes of Cynthia Rowley, Terence Koh, and Laura Dawn for the exhibition reception on 233 Mott St.

Kirill was out. Why weren't you?

Not Yet Labor Day

Aug23

The District L duo gave up on outdated fashion rules long ago. Suede found its way into spring accessories and tights have been courting open-toed shoes for quite some time now. Despite the lack of emphasis people place on these old guidelines, it still seems fun to ride out summer traditions in the remaining weeks of August.

Just last week, one of our favorite partying photographers captured the Hampton hedonists that were most excited that it is not yet Labor Day.
