GucciMuseo - Florence

Oct31

A little less than a month ago, GucciMuseoa shrine to the famed Italian design house – opened its doors in Florence. During my return last week, I made my way through the multi-level style sanctuary in Piazza del Signoria. This sartorial time capsule houses recent and archive collections, as well as a small Gucci shop, café, and lifestyle items predating 1930.

Upon entering GucciMuseo, guests are immediately presented with mobile luxury, the Gucci 1979 Cadillac Seville. With iconic trim and an interlocked GG medallion, the leather-packed Gucci-mobile made for an impressive welcome.

Ascending into the fashion fortress, a record of the works from Guccio and Aldo Gucci to Tom Ford and Frida Giannini, I allowed my fingers to graze over red carpet originals chosen by stars like Hilary Swank, Naomi Watts, and Kate Beckinsale, despite security’s watchful eye.

Finally, I entered the last exhibition, a small cinema dedicated to The Film Foundation. In partnership with Martin Scorcese, Gucci provided funding to preserve chic masterpieces like La Dolce Vita and A Woman Under the Influence.

From preserved film classics to feathered horse-bit frocks, the Gucci empire was built upon, and currently operates under one age-old decree:

“Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten.” – Aldo Gucci

Luxury Pursuit

Mar07

Traveled, adventurous, and opulent.

This season continues to divulge the next chapter of fashion's cultured bohemian. In rich furs and sequined detailing, the FW11 woman enjoys elaborate embellishments while maintaining her effortless attitude and 70s-style sophistication.

In feathered fringe from Binetti and glam-rock silhouettes from Maisonette, the modern-day Brigitte Bardots will come out to play.

Gucci: Sophisticated Seduction

Sep23

This season, Frida titled her collection, "Sophisticated Seduction." Contrasting sky-bright hues with sandy neutrals, Gucci's runway was as sexy as a Friday evening sunset - a clean slate, yet full of possibility.

An updated take on color-blocking allowed for the more elegant interpretation, but the subtle spice hid in the details: Frida tied in braided leather tassels (her evolving runway trademark) onto bags and belts for a fine assertiveness.

Because the Gucci girl knows what "sophisticated seduction" really means:

More results, less words.

Gucci: left field much?

Mar01

When did you think we would ever see these again?

Gucci's Fall 2009 runway was rife with polka dots. While dots are usually hit or miss, the graphic style of the print matched with Frida Giannini's typically flawless execution made them surprisingly okay. Unexpected and risky, but ultimately paid off.

Hold your breath for the $19.90 H&M version; this may be one of the season's more unexpected, winning trends. Accessible, to boot. Watch it trickle down like raindrops on a windowpane.

See? They're already claiming their territory.
