As the Audi Forum on Park Avenue filled with four-on-the-floor beats by Tiga, Diane and Eric of MARTINmartin introduced an androgynous, shadowy collection for FW11. Starting with jagged, post-apocalyptic looks in monochromatic black, the collection’s concept felt too developed to be called “angsty.” In the first part of the show, destruction was aptly represented through deconstructed leather combined with torn wovens and heavy knits.
Once guests thought they had formed their opinions of MARTINmartin’s show, the collection’s attitude began to change; light had formed at the end of the tunnel. Bits of white were slowly introduced to the looks, providing a lighter, more ethereal feel.
By the finale, the story’s conclusion was clear – what was created had been destroyed and what was destroyed had been reborn.
Most people tip their mailman during the Christmas holiday. If we knew our mailman, we'd tip him right before Fashion Week. Invites of all sizes begin satiating our hungry little mailbox; one that exclusively handles junk mail and credit card bills during the rest of the year. As I was rifling through yesterday’s mail, one invite stood out in particular.
When I unraveled the poster-sizedGeisha-in-an-opium-den image, I immediately knew I was going to be making room in my Fashion Week schedule. The Blonds had the most fun last season and this invite looks nothing short of extraordinary. But be sure to read the fine print:
Invitation management isn’t the only Fashion Week preparation we engage in. Today I’ll be sitting in on Lois Eastlund’s model casting. Her February 14th runway show is quickly approaching, so click here to support the fabulous!
Tonight, we’ll be heading west for another debaucherous Saturday evening. Before Starboard Hudson goes on a one-month hiatus, DL will be boarding the boat once more for music, neon, and the occasional makeshift photo shoot. The party at Starboard will return for their Mardi Gras event, taking place on Saturday, March 12. The Chainsmokers will be bringing their high-energy performance on boardand Kirill from KirillWasHerewill be thereto capture all the madness.
After owning her own boutique in the Lower East Side for over two years and filling up my closet for the past six months, Lois Eastlund has secured a runway spot with Antavenues for New York Fashion Week. On Monday, February 14, Lois will be presenting her Fall 2011 collection at Studio 580, located on 580 8th Avenue. The event commences with an hour-long cocktail reception and art presentation at 7:00pm, and leads into a collaborative runway showcase at 8:00pm.
Normally, there are only two prerequisites to obtaining a District L RSVP: Cocktails and photographers. So if you’re showcasing a DL friend and favorite, you can guarantee that we’ll clear our evening – and possibly the next morning too.
