How to Pack for Noah's Yacht

May17

For a fashion site, we’re pretty keen on the impending apocalypse, wouldn’t you say?

We’ve only mentioned the end of the world in regards to Starbucks and Henri Bendel. And then, of course, we exposed the apocalyptic warnings hidden within the collections of Sally LaPointe, Maisonette 1977, and MARTINmartin. Oh, yeah… we also brought it up again this past weekendjust for fun.

But all jokes aside, if this New York rain doesn’t stop anytime soon, we’re going to have to start boarding an arc. And by arc, I mean a luxury-class Giga yacht.

Thinking about how we’re going to deal with all of those goddamn animals is enough to induce an anxiety attack. Dare I remind you of the stress that comes with packing?! So that is why I created this helpful list:

HOW TO PACK FOR NOAH’S ARC YACHT

Before you start packing things, it’s imperative that you start considering a travel partner. Your initial thought may be to quickly find your soulmate so you can sail happily-ever-after into a sea of nothingness.

But your initial thought is wrong. Cruises are good for one thing – meeting attractive people of the opposite gender. So if you’re going to pick a person to cruise with for all of apocalyptic eternity, it might as well be someone who has great accessories.

Multi-functional clothing. No, I don’t mean jeggings. I am talking about United Nude’s Pin heel. With a shoe that doubles as a weapon, you’ll be more prepared than a soccer mom at a Kleenex conference. And a hell of a lot sexier.

Cotton is chic. And it doesn’t wrinkle like linen. Expect to be psyched when you start unrolling those 40 Lois Eastlund dresses out of your suitcase – you’ll have way more clothing options than anyone else on that boat without exceeding the luggage weight-limit. Plus, dry-clean-only is not ideal for prolonged rainstorms.

EFFEN Vodka. Need I say more?

Sun protection. But sunscreen smells, so what’s a lady to do? We suggested you invest in a wide-brim Carmen Marc Valvo hat and call it a day. It’ll also double as an excuse when you pretend to not notice your irritating neighbors waving from down the hall.

There you have it: District L – your one-stop shop for fashion news and end-of-the-world preparation. You’re welcome, dear readers.

Brunch and Repeat

Apr18

The weekend began with EFFEN vodka and edgy electronic beats by Savoy – and it ended with Sunday’s sidewalk visit to Hulbert Waldroup, the infamous artist on West Broadway. Toss in a few glasses of champagne, a brunch session at Freemans, one major OAK sale, and a lazy afternoon at the Tribeca Grand Hotel

No amount of youth is being wasted on these PYTs.

And if the rumors are true, spring is right around the corner. Toss your winter coats into storage and prepare to match your wardrobe to that new abundant social calendar:

Brunch at Marc Forgione: Two-Toned Heels by Kathryn Amberleigh (219 Mott Street)

Art Shopping on West Broadway: Crescendo Dot Dress by Lois Eastlund (153 Ludlow Street)

Nighttime Rooftop Pregame: Impact Silk Crop Jacket by Stylein (EVA New York)

District L and the Indian EFFEN Summer

Oct16

We have it on good authority that the above statement is true.

So this is how committed we are to you, dear readers. I have my trench buckled and ready to go, Amanda is literally about to open the front door, we are like SO READY to head out for another fabulous Saturday night yet we are STILL BLOGGING. You can thank us later, we're RL busy.

EFFEN was kind enough to send us a bottle of their stupid awesome vodka, which inspired us to whip up a few EFFEN concoctions of our own this evening. Below is our favorite, inspired by this unseasonably warm weather we've been hit with - light, bouncy, and vivacious, this one is a great way to salute these last vestige of summer.

District L's Indian EFFEN Summer -

-1 part EFFEN Vodka (Original)

-1 part prosecco

-1 squeeze lemon juice

-A few sprigs of mint

-Thinly sliced cucumber

- A lil' bit of crushed ice

In a white wine glass, lightly mash some mint with crushed ice. Add EFFEN Vodka followed by prosecco, stir lightly and squeeze a sneeze of lemon juice into the mix. Garnish with a slice or two of cucumber.

Summer is drifting away, but putting up a great fight; don't let F/W tell S/S what to do - think about how you would feel. So swizzle up one of these bad boys and let's keep summer alive a little bit longer, shall we?

Afterthoughts

Sep20

After a post-NYFW weekend spent catching up on sleep, nourishment, and the occasional phone call, District L found time to delve into our messy runway notes.

We started the week together at MAINENTRANCE, celebrating DJ Riggs and Berry Bachen's launch of their new creative space. As street-style photographer, Mr. Newton, furiously snapped away, guests enjoyed cocktails and music in the hidden Midtown location.

The first official day of New York Fashion Week in Lincoln Center was September 9. Our schedule for the evening included a picnic-perfect Verrier presentation, followed by a collective showing called Concept Korea. The next day, Nicolas ventured to the tents solo, where he enjoyed Buckler, EDITION by Georges Chakra, Ports 1961, and Alexander Berardi, just to name a few. We later met up on the Lower East Side for a fabulous Fashion's Night Out with Lois Eastlund.

Our weekend started in the Studio with Mik Cire. His male models must have gotten rowdy that night, because Rebecca Minkoff's girls were rocking a bit of morning-after attitude the following day. While I attended Minkoff's model presentation at the Box, Nick headed to the Audi Forum for some Thuy eye-candy.

We reconvened over EFFEN cocktails in the IMG Fashion Lounge before heading to see Joaquin Trias' intelligent design. We then attended Custo Barcelona's party-girl parade before jetting downtown to catch Sally Lapointe's inspiring debut show.

Monday rolled around, bringing Monique Lhuillier's delicious temptation to the Stage. Later that evening, the District L dyad met up for sorbet in Key West - I mean, the Perry Ellis runway show. Post-Perry, we cabbed it down to ION Studios to check out ANN YEE's model party over wine and remixes by Crystal Castles.

Tuesday brought us two fantastic fairytales:  TIBI and Toni Francesc. Afterwards, we headed to Toni's afterparty at Veranda, where we drank Given and chatted up Aimee from Song of Style.

We met up the following evening to witness some Lynn Wyatt-chic at Zang Toi. On Thursday, Nick attended the Argentina Group Show before meeting up with me at Milk Studios for The Blonds. After devouring our much-needed dose of sparkle, sex, and spunk, we headed back to Lincoln Center. Helping out with our hectic schedule, Madisen Walker remained uptown to cover Rebecca Moses, or rather, cover-to-cover Rebecca Moses.

The last New York show of the season was IVANAhelsinki. After searching relentlessly, Paola Ivana Suhonen found her sailor - in sun-washed nautical prints and rope-coil boots.

What does it take to get an EFFEN drink in New York?

Sep15

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week's most clever sponsor, EFFEN Vodka, held an intimate cocktail party in the IMG Fashion Lounge on Sunday evening. As we grabbed our first round of Picture Perfects, our EFFEN hosts shared a few facts about their sassy brand:

'EFFEN' is Dutch for 'smooth.'

EFFEN is the self-proclaimed "bartender's brand," designed by industry professionals in both packaging and taste.

Although we had never heard of EFFEN Vodka before, EFFEN boasts a 120-year-old recipe.

While we can't complain about the BAWLS we sucked down last season in Bryant Park, most can agree there is nothing better than a little EFFEN.

Fashion Week's EFFEN Sponsor

Aug31

EFFEN Vodka is the Official Vodka of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. With plans to throw an EFFEN Cocktail Party during the week-long runway event, EFFEN Vodka will introduce their signature EFFEN concoctions. Lincoln Center is about to get EFFEN crazy.

Just so you know, EFFEN means "smooth" in Dutch... Right, who was the smart-ass who used GoogleTranslator for that one?
