DecadesTwo - Going 2.0 with Two.1

Oct12

Cameron Silver's Decades, the expertly curated menagerie of vintage couture with both a hard location in LA and an ever-growing pop-up tour, is taking a big leap onto the new media gravy train.

Sister boutique DecadesTwo, which meshes Decades with a sort of Christies-meets-Gilt concept, has just relaunched as DecadesTwo.1, an online storefront which co-owner Christos Garkinos promises will be "focused on being both multi-platform and multi-media".

The stock, "pre-loved" pieces sold at as much as an 80% markdown, are sourced from Garkinos' personal circle of celebrity and industry contacts. This combined with an "under $300" section on the site means that, potentially, the only thing standing between you and one sudden degree of separation from Rachel Zoe is, well...$299.

Other features on the site include dossiers on the shop's high-profile consignors, closet features, and daily blog posts by Garkinos himself...besides much, much more. While technologically not the most revolutionary platform on the web, it's a thrilling (and surprisingly democratic?) new portal of access to some utterly sublime second skins.

So, Daphne, when you start to think your vault is getting a bit full...take note.

Daphne Guinness wants you to know: No POP in her future.

Mar04

Hell no.

Ever since Dasha Zhukova, terminally nouveau-riche girlfriend of Roman Abramovich, was appointed editor-in-chief of POP Magazine after the departure of Katie Grand and almost the entire staff (who swore to follow her to whatever corner of the earth she might taken them- in this case straight to Conde Nast to spearhead new publication LOVE), rumors began popping up that Daphne Guinness would be a part of the "advising board", or more appropriately the "official hand-holding committee", working with Dasha on getting the new issue out.

Daphne Guinness wants you to know that this is not true; in a flurry of statements released within the past few days, Daphne has confirmed that she will play no part in the new POP under Zhukova. The de rigeur interpretation of this sudden defensive bout is that Guinness is trying to distance herself from a potential trainwreck. Frankly, we can't blame her- how will POP ever be the same without Katie?

As she told freelancer Derek Blasberg in a phone interview, “I would like to emphasize that I’m completely neutral here—I’m a free agent! Fashion is my family and I love everyone just the same." This was followed shortly thereafter by a blog post on Starworks that said “it was so FUNNY to read on the web that I am on the new board of POP Magazine with Dasha Zhukova and my friend Ashley Heath. It was flattering but not true I am afraid. It came as a complete surprise. A complete misunderstanding! That is the nature of the web.”

It looks like Dasha will have to make do with the team of freelancers Bauer Media had to pull in to replace the elite Katie-squad that upped-sticks straight to LOVE.

Quotable

"There are movie stars you see in film or characters in a novel that are an idealized version of what we dream life to be about, and rarely is this great expectation met...But Daphne is the exception: She is the embodiment of the ideal- beautiful, chic, fiercely intelligent, and kind"- Stephen Klein on Daphne Guinness, W Magazine
