Footwear for Secret Fete

Aug31

District L discovered contemporary footwear brand, Feiyue, at Rendez-Vous NYC back in February 2009. Raan Parton, creative director for Apolis Activism and Feiyue spokesperson, presented the canvas-based collection, emphasizing the label’s inspiration through travel and movement. Even the word ‘Feiyue’ translates to “flying forward” in Chinese.

Combining their fresh aesthetic with established functionality, this French label has gained worldwide fervor since its launch in 2006. Now, over two years after District L's initial introduction, Feiyue lands in our inbox, taunting us with a mystery event scheduled for September 10.

That's right. Sometime on 9/10, somewhere in the Meatpacking District, something is going to happen. And we're going to be ready.

An Icy RSVP

Aug29

For many New Yorkers, this past week marked their first “earthquake,” as well as their first “hurricane.” Air quotes aside, it has been an eventful few days – on Twitter, at the very least.

Now, with the onset of New York Fashion Week, we face another highly anticipated whirlwind of events. And while a shower of invitations had entered our 10-day forecast, we were not predicting hail.

Despite our own miscalculated predictions, hailstones arrived in our mailbox – two transparent cubes imprinted with the specifics for Sally LaPointe’s SS12 runway show in microscopic font. Sally LaPointe, known for her show-stopping collections and innovative invites, continues to outdo herself each season. With cube invitations and an impervious reputation, our RSVP is crystal clear.

Don't Feed The Models

Aug25

Thanks to the beautiful marriage of fashion and nightlife, “Don’t feed the models” and “Thanks, It’s Vintage” are not just overused Fashion Week phrases – they’re cocktails.

This season, The Empire Hotel will be celebrating the one-year anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center with aptly named elixers and a stylish makeover. Moises de la Renta, son of Oscar, created a signature dress for the hotel’s Fashion Week Ambassadors. In turn, The Lobby Bar of The Empire Hotel will be serving up “Moises’ Fashion Fix,” an enticing rum conconction.

For the entire month of September, you'll be due for some fashion-themed booze.

"Well, don't just stand there. Get me a drink!"

Monday: Mourning.

Aug22

There is nothing more painful than the caustic return of Monday after a good weekend -- especially those excruciating moments right before viewing my Chase Checking balance for the first time in three days… But as unavoidable as the first flannel purchase for a new Williamsburg resident, Monday made its bitter return.

So what other option do I have than to reflect upon the past days’ unabashed consumption and celebration?

Festivities began early last week with Anna Dello Russo’s INC launch at Openhouse Gallery. The Wednesday night event possessed the right ingredients for a perfect party – Champagne, models, and a famous style icon.

The second half of last week enjoyed its good share of meet-ups. My first stop was Ludlow to visit designer and friend, Lois Eastlund. As I browsed through her new color-ways and styles, we caught up and discussed a particularly exciting photo shoot on the horizon.

Two Bisousciao macrons later, I finally summoned the courage to elbow my way through Soho. When I finally exhaled inside Bloomindales, I was immediately drawn to a table of megawatt LARUICCI cocktail rings like a sorority girl drawn to glittery puff paint and plastic stemware. Designer, Lauren Ruicci, was busy greeting impressed visitors at her weekend trunk show.

“We have a lot in the works for fashion week,” she hinted, “but I can’t really divulge much yet!”

After a bit of self-pampering and shopping, it was time for another rooftop rendezvous with friends -- once again, falling into a champagne haze in the name of birthday celebration. But by 8pm, it was already time to start pulling ourselves together for the Digitalism show at Terminal 5.

B for Body Heat

Aug18

Shoe designer, Brian Atwood, has been drumming up buzz with his new contemporary line, B Brian Atwood. The collection, which debuts this week  at Saks Fifth Avenue, has been enjoying a steamy introduction with its provocative campaigns.

Atwood is on everyone's mind with sexy ads inspired by the 1981 film, Body Heat.

ADR says...

Aug17

Anna Dello Russo, the Editor at Large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan, is celebrating her new Editor at Large arrangement with INC for the Fall/Holiday 2011 season. During this evening’s event, guests previewed ADR’s launch at Openhouse Gallery.

With a full champagne bar and music by DJ Sky Ferreira, we spent our Wednesday night mingling amongst a line-up of fabulous color-blocking and fuchsia fur.
