The "Finale" Days of Summer

Aug31

Fashion's final remnants of summer are being packed away in preparation for MBFW SS11. That's it, dear readers. Sidewalk Catwalk's respected reign on the Garment District ends this week.

Fashion Week's EFFEN Sponsor

Aug31

EFFEN Vodka is the Official Vodka of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. With plans to throw an EFFEN Cocktail Party during the week-long runway event, EFFEN Vodka will introduce their signature EFFEN concoctions. Lincoln Center is about to get EFFEN crazy.

Just so you know, EFFEN means "smooth" in Dutch... Right, who was the smart-ass who used GoogleTranslator for that one?

Invite Spotlight

Aug30

As the SS/2011 invites begin rolling in, District L offers a sneak peak inside our ever-filling inbox. We're particularly excited about:

Tibi. On Thursday, September 14, 2010, Amy Smilovic will be taking Tibi uptown to Lincoln Center. After effortlessly contrasting tough hardware with tailored silhouettes last season, we're interested to see Tibi's interpretation of spring 2011.

Perry Ellis. I would write a small blurb about Perry Ellis and which aspects of his collection we're most excited about, but really? Male models. 'Nuff said.

Ports 1961. In addition to our hi-tech RSVP via Fashion GPS, District L received this beautiful Ports 1961 invitation in the mail. On Monday, September 13, we expect that Tia Cibani will be dramatizing traditions -- this time in The Theatre.

That's Rich

Aug27

Richie Rich, the former Heatherette co-designer, seems to be bringing his widely recognizable "trash-and-flash" to Lincoln Center this season. After securing the coveted 9pm time slot on the first day of Fashion Week, maybe the former Club Kid will think twice before making guests wait for hours, as they had for his A*Muse show last February.

But probably not if Pam is the culprit, because both blondes know that the press will wait. The 90s may be over, but sparkly sex-glam still has a place in everyone's heart.

Fashion's Night Out Updates

Aug24

When it comes to fashion's second annual "pre-game" party, we have no shortage of related conversation. Just 16 days away, here are a few stops we'll be adding to our itinerary:

Derek Lam: Model Maryna Linchuk will host Derek Lam's Fashion's Night Out party in Soho, complete with champagne and music by Woofgang. Document the night with Derek Lam's Fall 2010 photo booth backdrop - or just shop the night away.

Sir by Joanna Baum: Designer-assisted shopping, fee-free custom orders, and cocktails are enough to entice the District. To add to the fervor, West Village-born singer, Alexa Wilding, will be performing live in-store. Catch a piece of the action on September 10th at 129 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn.

Nicole Miller: The celebrated dress designer will be co-hosting her FNO party on Greene Street with singer and model, Cassie. Designer appearances get us in the store, but it is her three-hour open bar that will get us to stay.

Last but not least, District L's favorite, Lois Eastlund, is now listed as an FNO participant. Seasonless-sensibility and downtown-cool will now be open later on September 10th for Fashion's Night Out.

How Fashion GPS will change Fashion Week

Aug24

Aside from the uptown vs. downtown turmoil that currently plagues fashion week preparation, it's the technological transformations that have been the talk this week. According to IMG releases, the airport-style kiosks that are replacing the harried PR girls of yesteryear will speed runway show check-in and minimize gatecrashing.

Taking a cue from The Boom Boom Room and Central Park's South Gate? Maybe fashion is ready to reintroduce indulgence and abandon democracy.

Not Yet Labor Day

Aug23

The District L duo gave up on outdated fashion rules long ago. Suede found its way into spring accessories and tights have been courting open-toed shoes for quite some time now. Despite the lack of emphasis people place on these old guidelines, it still seems fun to ride out summer traditions in the remaining weeks of August.

Just last week, one of our favorite partying photographers captured the Hampton hedonists that were most excited that it is not yet Labor Day.

On the Radar

Aug18

Contrasting uptown with downtown and tailoring with edge, Timo Weiland made headlines with last season's delicious color palette and luxe fabric story. This season, the design duo will be presenting their sophisticated aesthetic at Lincoln Center on Sunday, September 12.

District L looks forward to more of  Weiland's defiant elegance for S/S2011.

The Fashion Gripe List

Aug17

On Friday, The Post uncovered New Yorkers' greatest pet peeves. At the top of the list were subway door hogs, slow tourists, and chatty cabbies. Other honorable mentions included hipsters (6.2%) and bike delivery guys (5.2%). With all due respect, New York, but how else are we supposed to get Gristede's back to our apartments?

In light of the gripe, District L has compiled its own list of style-related peeves:

Those commuter shoes that Carol from accounting wears. You know them. The white ones she wears with scrunched socks over her sheer pantyhose? Save them for Sunday morning's "Sweatin' to the Oldies" class, please.

Unfashionably late to the party in Greenpoint? Time to lose the fedora, kid. And while you're at it, Young Folks was popular about four years ago.

That bag your roommate bought on Canal Street freshman year. I don't care what the sketchy man whispered to her outside the JMZ subway stop -- It's not real Prada.

Is that an eagle on your shirt? It's painful to watch post-grads wear Hollister, American Eagle, and Abercrombie. Once you turn your tassel at high school graduation, there is really no excuse.

These models hate your studded Gaga glasses.
