More often than not, my most terrifying moments occur when I’m asleep – when there is nothing to distract me but my own thoughts and delusions. The concept of forming one’s own reality and its potentially dangerous consequence was the inspiration for Maisonette 1977. Positioned in a lucid dream at the apex of imagination and actuality, Jane Ibrahim invites us to an alluring metropolis that could transform at a moment’s notice.
With seamed leggings, asymmetrical hemlines, and geometric heels, Maisonette 1977 conveys an essence that is sensual, yet powerful. Ibrahim maintains this theme of urban suspense with a color palate that consisted of deep merlot, charcoal, and acid green. The inspiration, which stemmed from Christopher Nolan’s film, Inception, effectively delved into my indefinite subconscious.
The result? A stirring collection I dream to personify for FW11.
